Roof Support Technology Review Updated

By Sahar Pakzad, April 7th, 2014 - PERMALINK

RoofSupportFailure to support the roof of a mine is the greatest cause of accidents in mining. Many a good miner says you can hear the rock talk and so you know to stay away. Colourful, but not sufficient today as the basis for good mining practice.

The review on TechnoMine about Roof Support is a good resource for more information on this topic. This review covers rockbolts and cables, roof bolters, and shotcrete. It also gives links to suppliers and consultants with expertise in roof support, as well as roof bolting software and courses.

Upcoming Live Webcast – Uptime for the Down Times

By Steven Hahn, April 3rd, 2014 - PERMALINK
This June, we will be holding James V. Reyes-Picknell’s webcast on uptime. This year, Mr. Reyes-Picknell has revised the overall theme of the webcast to specifically address the current state of the market. This version is titled Uptime for the Down Times – Strategies for Excellence in Maintenance Management, and it recognizes that, in down markets, companies need to focus more on cost reduction so there is an immediate need for improvements that cost little, yet deliver more… The webcast will help you to reduce maintenance costs through easy to implement and inexpensive successful practices; reduce the risks to safety, environmental compliance and business performance due to equipment failures; deliver more uptime – availability of physical assets for your business; and identify what you can do today to get the changes started. The three-day webcast will be held 10 – 12 June 2014 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am Pacific Daylight Time each day and you can attend from anywhere. Register before May 10 to receive a 10% early bird discount! For more information or to register, see the course page. Updated Online Course: Bench Face Design in Rock

By Jennifer Lyseng - EduMine Editor, March 12th, 2014 - PERMALINK
We’ve just launched the highly anticipated update for the online course Bench Face Design in Rock by James Mathis PhD. Intended as an instructional course and a technical reference for an audience of mining engineers, engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers concerned with design and maintenance of benched excavations in rock for open pit mining, quarrying or highway construction, Bench Face Design in Rock provides a comprehensive discussion of the parameters and methodology of bench face design in rock, from data collection and basic geotechnical approaches through to the more complex questions of estimating bench face angles and distributions, design sensitivity to rock mass parameters, and the influences of drilling and blasting procedures.   The update includes a new session on photogrammetry and a practical comparison of Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) stability analysis and structure orientation based/fixed discontinuity persistence methods. To view the course or register for certification, see the course page. The post Updated Online Course: Bench Face Design in Rock appeared first on EduMine News.
